6.14.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out at 5:45. Tide was on it's way up to a 3.16' high at 7:25, so some of the waves were backing off a little. Conditions were clean with a slight south wind that picked up a little through the session. Torrey Pines Outer buoy was reporting Significant Wave Height as 4.1' from 276°.  During the session you could tell that some of the 1.3' SW 20s interval was mixing in with the two 7-9s WNW swells. This made for a strange combination of some inconsistency followed by periods of back to back swells. The waves were in the waist to head high range, with occasional overhead sets. The bigger sets were getting more consistent as the session progressed. Water was a little chilly for my spring suit (need to get the sleeves cut off of my old full suit). Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

Chris M. met me down there, a little while after I paddled out, and we both caught some fun rights and lefts at south peak. It might have been better at middles or north peak, but it was more crowded there as well. I had a couple of waves where I paid the consequence of starting to push the twinzer a little more, as I wiped out due to the tail spinning out...

Note: I am going to start including pics of the buoy reports from lajollasurf.org and surfline.com.

  2. Thanks Derrik, You were the inspiration for setting up a quick blog like this. I look forward to understanding buoy readings and how they affect the spots I like to go to...
