6.30.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out at 5:30 AM. Solo session today. Tide was pushing to a 3.44' high at 7:39 AM. Conditions were glassy with some wind swell bumb, with no winds. Torrey Pines Outer Buoy was reporting Significant Wave Height of 4' from 280°. Waves better than I had expected as most os San Diego county is very small, that being said it was fun being out. Conditions were a little crossed up with the two relatively short period wind swells. Waves were waist to chest high. Water was toasty in my ls full suit. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

6.28.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out at 5:45 AM. Chirs M. joined me at 6:15. Tide was coming off of a 3.12' high at 5:02 AM. Conditions were small but glassy, with no winds. Torrey Pines Outer Buoy was reporting Significant Wave Height of 2.5' from 261°. Waves were waist high with the occasional plus rolling through. Water was clear and comfortable in my SS Full. Board ridden: 5'8" Xanadu Pig2.

I saw two pods of dolphins, a seal, a lot of fish, and about 10 stingrays (very close to the shore).

6.26.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out solo at 5:45. Chris M. joined me around 6:30. Tide was dropping to a 0.9' at 8:29 AM. Conditions were glassy, with slight offshore winds. Torrey Pines Outer Buoy was reporting Significant Wave Height of 3.9' from 287°. The two main swell directions were short period. There were some occasional lined up waves, but the majority were mostly just a drop and then very little shoulder before backing off. Waves were waist to chest high. Water was warmer, but the air temp made me wish I hadn't worn my spring suit. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

6.24.2012 - Del Mar

I brought the kids to 20th Street, Del Mar, to spend some time with the Trussell family. We got to the beach around 1:00. Tide was pushing to a 4.0' High at 1:53 PM. Wind was relatively calm. Torrey Pines Outer buoy was reporting a Significant Wave Height of 3.0' at 5.5s. The surf was only okay, as the tide was making so the waves were backing off completely in the deep spot between the inner and outer sand bars. Water was really warm, and I surfed in my trunks and long sleeve jacket for about 30-45.

La Jolla Surf was down, so I grabbed a swell height history screen shot from Solspot:

6.23.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out around 6:45 AM with Joel S. and Chris M. Tide was  -0.3' low at 6:31 AM. Conditions were a little choppy with a south wind blowing. Torrey Pines outer was reporting 3.6' @ 8s from WNW (286°). I surfed at the south end of south peak. Caught some pretty fun waves. Some of the waves would just be a drop without a shoulder, and others would offer up a decent length ride. Waves were chest high on average. Wore my full suit, and was roasting, I picked up my old full suit which I had converted to a short sleeve full at http://www.swell-stuff.com. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

Note: http://www.lajollasurf.org/ has been down since Saturday.

6.16.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out close to 6:00 AM. Tide was low pushing to a 3.39' at 9:01. Conditions were clean, very slight south wind. Torrey Pines Outer buoy was reporting 3.5' from 277°. It was a combo of 9s W and 16s SW swells. It was pretty inconsistent, but when the sets came in they were fun. Waves were chest to head high with occasional plus sets. Since I had been chilly the last couple of sessions in my spring suit, I wore my full suit, but I was roasting in it. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

I surfed the north end of south peak for about two hours. Good rights and lefts.

6.14.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out at 5:45. Tide was on it's way up to a 3.16' high at 7:25, so some of the waves were backing off a little. Conditions were clean with a slight south wind that picked up a little through the session. Torrey Pines Outer buoy was reporting Significant Wave Height as 4.1' from 276°.  During the session you could tell that some of the 1.3' SW 20s interval was mixing in with the two 7-9s WNW swells. This made for a strange combination of some inconsistency followed by periods of back to back swells. The waves were in the waist to head high range, with occasional overhead sets. The bigger sets were getting more consistent as the session progressed. Water was a little chilly for my spring suit (need to get the sleeves cut off of my old full suit). Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

Chris M. met me down there, a little while after I paddled out, and we both caught some fun rights and lefts at south peak. It might have been better at middles or north peak, but it was more crowded there as well. I had a couple of waves where I paid the consequence of starting to push the twinzer a little more, as I wiped out due to the tail spinning out...

Note: I am going to start including pics of the buoy reports from lajollasurf.org and surfline.com.

6.12.2012 - Blacks

Paddled out around 5:45. Tide was b/w the 3.2 high at 4:54 and the 1.2 low at 10:50. Conditions were pretty clean with a slight north wind blowing. Most of the sets were chest high, with the occasional plus coming through. The rights off of north peak were fun, but the lefts (all around) were better. Torrey Pines Outer buoy reported that the significant wave height was 2.6' from 281°. The water was really clear and I was comfortable in my spring suit. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer.

All around it was a really fun session. Enjoyed watching this kid out there, who was surfing with his dad. He was ripping, and pulling in on almost every wave he caught! People I knew in the lineup: Derrik M. Billy L.

6.9.2012 - Blacks

6.9.12 - Blacks

Picked up by Joel S. and Chris M. for a 6:30 departure. Paddled out close to 7:00. Slight south wind texture on the outside, but cleaned up when the wave broke. Nice lefts and rights all around. 5.3' from 280° at 9 seconds. Consistent chest to head high, with the bigger sets being overhead. Strong south current plus rip tide, so spent a lot of time paddling to stay in place. Tide was a -0.1 low at 8:03 AM. I wore my spring suit and was totally comfortable. Board ridden: 5'10" KG Twinzer Fish.

It took me a while to catch my first wave due to the current, and being nervous of the sets coming through. Ended up catching several fun rights off the south end of south peak. A good time was had by all three of us!

My Quiver 06-2012

Since I am just starting to use blogger as a surf journal, I might as well have my current quiver be the first post.
